Lap-Band
Over the course of the last couple of years, my weight has just spiraled out of control. I’m not sure what exactly happened – but it happened. In July of 2008, Austin and I went to the information session for surgical weight loss at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. After the session, I was ready to sign on the dotted line. Austin wasn’t. We learned that you have to weight at least 18 months after surgery to get pregnant and just having been married in May of ‘08, Austin wasn’t sure he wanted to wait that long. So we decided that we would “make the life change” on our own. Um..yeah…. In January of ‘09 I had a bit of a break-down. I was just getting heavier and heavier and I need to do something. After countless tries and fails of Weight Watchers and other diets – it was time. Austin gave his blessing on the surgery and five minutes later I had an appointment with Dr. Malcom Robinson.
My first appointment was on March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day. Dr. Robinson labeled me a candidate and off we went. In early April, I had the upper GI and psychiatric evaluation and passed (obviously, I’m sane..haha!). I had my surgery on May 13, 2009. The recovery took all of the 5 days they said it would. On the day of my surgery I weighed in at 244. Four weeks after surgery I had my first appointment – I had lost 17 lbs!
It’s been quite a whirlwind. I follow the diet very closely and with the support of Austin and my family I have been very successful. I had my six-month check up ( I also go every four weeks) and Dr. Robinson informed me of some interesting facts. In six-months, I have lost 48.5 percent of my EBW (excess body weight). My BMI has gone from 41 to 31 and I’ve lost 60 lbs.
It’s an on-going journey for sure. My goal is to loose another 40 (for a total of 100 lbs). I invite you to follow my progress here on my blog.
