Ira Toyota..why won’t you help me???

Okay so based on everyone’s reviews and our own opinions, Austin and I went to the Ira Toyota dealership in Danvers and made an offer on a 2007 Toyota Camry SE. This car was really nice – heated leather seats, moonroof, bluetooth, mp3 hookups, etc, etc. Unfortunately, the sales manager and us couldn’t come to any sort of agreement. So think again if you believe that Toyota is giving cars away because they aren’t. Austin’s point was that between his family and mine, we have owned 7 toyota’s and even though today news broke that their repairs to all their recalls aren’t working and that people’s lives are in jeopardy – we still went in. They assured me that they couldn’t sell a car with unrepairable recalls on it.

We made our offer and they basically laughed at us..we couldn’t bridge a $2,000 gap. I understand that is a lot to ask on a used car but last time I checked more than 50 people died from cars that rapidly accelerated. Gee, Ira Toyota in Danvers if I were you – I would take what I can get.

The other part that just really irked me is how they treat their sales people. Our salesman, Mark, was doing a great job of trying to work with us and come to a reasonable agreement. On the second round of negotiations, he took our offer back to the sales manager and then from the cube in which we were sitting we heard this (loudly), “Mark why would you think we would accept this offer, I mean c’mon you are a smart guy.” and so on and so on. Then the sales manager came over and explained that the price is the price and they are not willing to budge. WHAT?? What kind of car dealer doesn’t negotiate and I’m looking for more than a $200 difference here buddy. He was so high up on himself you would have thought we were sitting in the Mercedes dealership and their cars WEREN’T killing people – but we weren’t and they are.

After 5 minutes of him trying to convince us of paying more for the car than we can afford – Austin looked at him and said, “look – this is what we can afford. You can work with us or not. I don’t want to waste your time and I don’t want to waste mine.” To which he responded, “okay, thanks for coming in.” Granted, I’ve never negotiated for a car because I’ve never had a car payment but I didn’t think it was going to go like this – I thought there would be a little more give and take but whatever, I’m moving on…I’ll find a car…
