So for those of you who don’t know during my time at Bradley University I was a member of Gamma Phi Beta. Membership in a social sorority is for a life-time and I loved every minute of college life and hanging with my bestie’s. So after graduation it is no shock that I missed sorority life. Then my life changed…I found Greek! It was the answer to my “wanting to be in college again” feelings AND it was the first television show that was somewhat similar to an actual sorority and greek life. Philanthropies, mixers, IFC, recruitment, song-fest, etc..all of the elements of the show are very similar to real life greek life. Until this week’s episode.
[SPOILER ALERT]. For those of you who haven’t been watching this season I’ll give you the brief run down. ZBZ burnt down Gamma Psi house BUT on accident. They were snooping around for the Panhel president’s (who is also a Gamma Psi) clip board with the scores from song fest on it because they felt they were cheated. One of the girls lit a candle and forgot to blow it out while they were illegally trespassing and they burnt the place to the ground. Now Casey (played by Spencer Grammer, yes Kelsey’s daughter and the lead on the show) has one guilty conscience and in this week’s episode she ends of telling the president of Gamma Psi that they burnt their house down. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU CASEY?? Is what I was screaming at the TV.
What ensued after is what made me question the authenticity of the show and come back to reality that this is not me and my friends home videos from Bradley – this is a TELEVISION show! The Gamma Psi president then tries to blackmail Casey and make her give them the ZBZ house (since the Gamma Psi’s are now living in the dorms). Casey does a little digging and finds out the the president of Gamma Psi slept with one of the judges from song-fest in exchange for giving ZBZ a zero and therefore loosing song fest. So, Casey has a little surprise meeting with the Panhel president and the Gamma Psi president where she outs the fact that ZBZ burnt down their house BUT they can’t turn her in because she knows that Gamma Psi girl slept her way to the top. The panhel president is so worried about the lifetime movie “sorority burns down house because of sexual favors for song-fest” she decides not to turn her in..WHAT?? In real life this girl would go to jail! But, again — it’s just a television show. It’s not real life (as much as I want it to be). At least Casey came clean and we can move on..
